    Pros +

    • lovely garden and surroundings Great breakfast and service.
    • Everything. Wonderful staff.
    • Randy & everyone we met were wonderful! The rooms not so much. No chairs for friends to sit, not enough hooks for towels/other items, outside chairs uncomfortable, no heated pool. There were animals in our ceilings & sometimes walls who moved around all night. We loved the area and all the excursions Randy set up for us. Very friendly & accommodating staff!!!

    Cons -

    • I had to leave.
    • There was a leak in our roof, and water was dripping into our room. Being experienced travelers, we do know to place toilet paper in the wastebasket, nevertheless, the toilet stopped working twice. Breakfast was okay, but not great.
    • Thoughts of room decor could have been a little bit more modernized. I felt like I was still stuck in the 80s but essentially clean towels Linens and immaculate spaces.

Overall good quality for the value and great location central to most everything the Arenal Valley has to offer.

The cabins are perfect. High ceilings, clean bathrooms, ample space for our baby bed. The patio in front of the cabin is great to hang out when your baby sleeps. Breakfast was amazing.

Close to town. Large room. Large shower.

Parking lot was awful. Shower alternates freezing and scalding. Nothing in between. Not updated for charging. Need to unplug a lamp in order to plug in your devices.

This was a nice stay not too far from town, but nice and quiet. We had a couple tours and they picked us up easily from here. Breakfast in the morning had great views, nice company, and great staff. The room was comfortable and had all the amenities we needed.

The power went out a few times while we were staying here, which happens, but on the last day, when we were packing up, the power was out for over an hour.

An absolutely incredible stay! The lodge offered a perfect blend of jungle serenity and easy access to La Fortuna town, just a short 20-minute walk away. The wildlife around the property was stunning, with sightings of birds, sloths, and various other animals. The lodge itself was immaculately clean, and the staff were exceptionally warm and welcoming, making us feel right at home. The included breakfast was delicious, and we even enjoyed a refreshing cocktail upon arrival. Our room was cleaned daily, with the beds being extremely comfortable. The view of the volcano from both the rooms and the pool area was breathtaking, and the pool was well-maintained every day. This was by far the best place I’ve ever stayed, and I can’t recommend it enough. Truly a beautiful, unforgettable experience!

Good location, really friendly and helpful staff. Breakfast was delicious with a good amount of choice.

There was a bit of a strange smell from the drains, but other than that, everything was great

    Spacious and clean rooms.

A 25 minute walk to the main part of La Fortuna however Ubers were about £2 and there were plenty around.

Everything - beautiful lodge setting of 10 rooms just outside La fortuna with excellent facilities - the rooms, pool & restaurant were fantastic

Arenal History Inn is a small and cozy hotel located in La Fortuna, just two kilometers west from downtown. I would give the location of this hotel a 5 stars, because it is far enough from downtown La Fortuna to have some quiet time and at the same time, its 1 min walk to Red frog Cafe for your daily coffee and also to multiple excellent restaurants. It has 10 beautiful wood bungalows with private parking, private bathroom, air conditioning, cable TV, terrace and a wonderful view of the Arenal Volcano. Is is surrounded by beautiful gardens. We even saw some nice birds around the property. The hotel has a swimming pool for adults and children, wireless Internet in all its property, as well as in the restaurant. Breakfast was really good and the staff really friendly and accommodating.

There is not much we did not like.

Comfortable beds, a hot shower, and a well functioning air conditioning unit on the wall. There is an attached restaurant (Piura) that is owned by the same folks that own the hotel, so that’s where breakfast happened. We had breakfast once and it was a fine experience overall, great and spacious atmosphere but nothing remarkable about the food. We would have eaten there every day but our tour pickup times were usually too early. But there are a bunch of walkable places nearby, including a pretty good Soda (Costa Rican joint where some locals eat).Plenty of parking in the area and generally a good location. There is a grocery store (Super Cristian 4), laundry service and a handful of restaurants within about a 5 minute walking radius. If you want to go to downtown La Fortuna it’s about a 20 minute walk, that isn’t a smooth path, and I would not recommend doing at night. We walked it a couple of times during the day and it was fine, walked it one direction at night and decided not to do that again. Nothing happened but there are some long periods of fairly isolated and dark areas along a road that just doesn’t make sense to save money. A taxi each way was about $6 and took 5 minutes. One more point on the location. Though it wasn’t super close to the downtown it was WAY better than what we saw most families dealing with at the more resort-like properties. Many of the fancy resorts are so far outside of town you really have no choice but to shuttle/taxi/drive everywhere you want to go. I’m sure there are some exceptions but after watching people get dropped off at those places during our tours I preferred our location for the convenience of walking outside and exploring various hole-in-the-wall restaurants. If you want a resort where you can spend most of your vacation with other travelers, this isn’t that type of place.Oh lastly, there was a beautiful and clean pool that we never used.

The view from our patio/room (number 6) area wasn’t exactly of the volcano due to the amount of foliage between us and the volcano but it was still a very secluded feeling, so no complaints. It was also missing the sign for the property, reportedly due to a recent car accident, so that made it a little tougher for some of the shuttle services to find. Not really a big detector and should only be a temporary issue.

It is very close to everything around Arenal and very convenient.

Our car rental service had some delays at airport and we arrived the property a little bit after 10pm and no one on site to check us in and no one answered phone calls and messages. Given its during the Christmas holiday, almost no hotel in the town have any vacancy. We had to drive on the street for almost 2 hours to find another hotel to stay for a night. Even though Arenal History inn agreed not to charge us for that night, it was quite inconvenient for our vacation.

Nice good size room not cramped at all. Large bathroom with spacious shower and sink area. Clean, comfortable and quiet. Decent breakfast not bad not fabulous. Breakfast staff was great.

Hard to find at night since signs are not lit up… if checking in after 9 the restaurant staff will help with reaching a reception person. No signs nor mention of limited check in times. Aside from that all was great.

The staff were helpful and the breakfast was delicious. The property was pretty and the room was clean and comfortable.

Clean, quiet had two rooms side by side.

Big space in room. Wished there was a couch to sit on. Rocking chairs on patio were cute but small and uncomfortable. Wished there were bigger chairs to sit on outside.

Really wonderful cabins set back from the main road with lots of bird spotting opportunities. Pool was nice and cleaned daily, and the staff were fantastic, friendly and helpful. The cat Estella was also lovely. From the poolside we saw huge iguanas, two toucans, lots of other birds and some squirrels so it was a great spot to relax after doing different activities.

It’s not the easiest to get around without a car so I would recommend this property for those travelling with cars only! Quite close to the road so quite noisy with vehicles. Breakfast choice a little limited if you are staying for more than 2 days. Shower was cold 90% of the time.
